Honduras built a bridge, the bridge was just built, the river ran away

Honduras built a bridge, the bridge was just built, the river ran away

It is a normal practice for countries to build bridges over rivers, and the purpose of building a bridge is to cross the obstruction of the river, but a bridge in Honduras stands alone on the river bank, with the river flowing next to it, as if to mock it for standing in the wrong place.

So why was the bridge built next to the river instead of over it? The story goes back to the last century.

This bridge to nowhere is called the Choluteca Bridge, and the river flowing next to it is the Choluteca River. In the last century, the local government wanted to build a bridge over the Choluteca River, but the local area is often hit by hurricanes, when the hurricanes come when the local precipitation will soar, the wind is also very strong, the quality of the bridge is very high requirements.

In order to complete the bridge, the local government found the world's best construction experts to design the bridge, the bridge can withstand any hurricane, and can be used normally after the end of the hurricane.

After receiving the task, the construction experts studied a variety of approaches and designed a variety of programs. Fortunately, they did succeed in building the bridge in 1996, and local government officials also attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After the bridge was built, it provided a great convenience to the local residents. Only the year after the bridge was built, it was hit by a hurricane.

In 1998, Honduras was hit by a strong hurricane, named "Mitch", which started to form in October of that year and reached the highest hurricane category 5 status when it made landfall. The hurricane caused serious damage to the area.

However, the Choluteca Bridge performed very well in this hurricane, not only was not destroyed, and even very well preserved. The hurricane did not destroy the bridge, but the river was quietly diverted, making the Choluteca Bridge's location very awkward.

The reason why the river will divert itself is because of the excessive local rainfall during the hurricane, resulting in rainwater constantly washing the land, making the river water with a high sand content. In addition, due to the high amount of rainfall, which converges into the river through various channels, so that the flow of the Choluteca River is very high.

However, the Choluteka River flows through the place where the terrain is gentle and the flow is slow, so that the sediment in the river will continue to silt in one of the side, by the influence of the earth rotation deflection force, after the hurricane, the Choluteka River sediment continues to gather in one of the side, and scouring the other side, so the river was diverted.

The diverted river was located on the side of the Choluteca Bridge, and the Choluteca lost its original role, standing alone on the riverbank, looking at the big river next to it. It is because of this phenomenon that some people abroad call the Choluteca Bridge "the bridge of no use".
