The world's most "magical" park: a land park in winter, but a park under the lake in summer
Grüner See in Styria, Austria, is located at the foot of the Tragoess Hochschwald.
During the harsh winter months, the lake is almost completely dry, with only a couple of meters of water remaining, and the exposed park is a popular destination for hikers and cross-country skiers. But as the temperature rises in late spring and early summer, the snow gradually melts at the foot of the mountains and flows down the slopes, where it collects in the basin at the foot of the mountains, slowly submerging the park in clear melting ice and becoming Grüner See in summer.
The truth about the "Grüner See Underwater Park" is this: if we understand it simply from the point of view of "park", it only appears in winter.
In winter, it is indeed a park, with lush trees, comfortable benches, a babbling brook and elegant bridges, all the necessary infrastructure for a tourist attraction, and even two or three small music cafes, so it has always been the first choice of young people for camping parties in winter.
However, all of this slowly disappears each year as we enter late spring. As the rains increase in late spring and the snow starts to melt in the nearby mountains, the water flows into the depressed Grüner See Park, causing the water level to rise rapidly. In June and July, in the height of summer, the water depth exceeded 10 meters, and divers from all over the world flocked to the park to get a glimpse of the mysteries of the lake, which was a park six months ago.
Entering the bottom of the water feels like entering a magical world of unparalleled beauty, with flowers, paths, rocks and trees shining like a fairy tale under the sunlight through the water. The world under the lake with benches, roads, and green trees, so the clear melting ice reflects the luxuriant greenery under the water, and the lake takes on a touching emerald green color.
The view of the park under the lake is even more amazing! There are benches for visitors to rest (you can also sit and take a nap when you are tired of diving), old trees, greenery everywhere, and winding roads and bridges, just like an unreal world.
Divers can follow the road, follow a large school of fish, and rediscover another beautiful aspect of the park under the lake in a different way than in the winter.
In late spring and early summer, the water level here can rise to about 10 meters. In June, the water level is at its highest, reaching a depth of more than 10 meters, and the original "park beauty" has become an "underwater scenery", because it is far from industrial pollution, so the lake is exceptionally clear, and the water level of more than 10 meters can still be clearly seen at the bottom. Green grass and trees at the bottom of the water, the lake presents a distinctive green color.
Many people have questioned whether the infrastructure of the park, which has been submerged for months, will decay and produce some harmful germs.
Indeed, this is thanks to the careful construction designers and garden managers, for one thing, the builders use almost all corrosion-resistant or anti-corrosion materials, and for another, the managers do a lot of anti-bacterial disinfection work every year after the water level drops, so there is really nothing to worry about in this regard.
