The ancient city of Bellulizio was built 2,500 years ago on a hilltop about 120 kilometers north of Rome, Italy, and is connected to the outside world only by a long, narrow bridge.
The ancient city has survived the two world wars and the modernization of the city by its relative isolation, and today it still has relatively well preserved houses and buildings. It has been transformed into an "island" on land due to earthquakes and soil erosion, and is listed among the 100 most endangered sites in the world.
